Well sure enough it instantly recognized it and restored the iPod to mac settings and i had a little iPod tab at the top of iTunes. Out of nowhere my girlfriend tells me to try my old usb cable from my broken classic i got way back in 2012. It would sync for a few seconds, then instantly eject for no reason at all! After days of messing with this you won't believe what worked. Long Story: i've been having the same problem for days! My girlfriend bought me an unopened old iPod classic since mine got water damage early 2016, couldn't get iTunes to even recognize this iPod classic without auto-ejecting instantly every time i plugged it in. Short Story: Try every iPod usb cable you have! The older the better! The brand new cable i got only charged the iPod classic but wouldn't allow iTunes to transfer anything to or from the iPod or even recognize it. Hopefully, the iPod appears in iTunes (normally) after the Restore. If iTunes picks it up, it should prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery." This erases the iPod, so if you're OK with that (because the iPod's content is in your iTunes library), do the Restore. Start up MacBook, run iTunes, and connect iPod (in Disk Mode) to a direct USB port on MacBook, by itself. Connect MacBook's power adapter (so it's not running on battery power). If updating does not help (or you don't want to update iTunes), since iPod is recognized by the system, it appears to have a data connection. ![]() ![]() An iPod classic should work with even older versions of iTunes, but there may be an issue with the specific version you have (corrected in later version). Is there a reason you are using an older version of iTunes. The latest version of iTunes (12.5.1) should run under OS X 10.9.5.
